Learn About PTA Volunteer Opportunities

We are an all-volunteer organization and it is amazing what we have been able to do throughout the years. Our PTA runs a variety of programs – advocacy programs, student enrichment, family events, teacher appreciation and community outreach, just to name a few. We welcome EVERYONE to volunteer. We will work with your schedule! Every little thing you can do helps us in big ways! Please read through our program descriptions and consider volunteering!

Student & Teacher Advocacy Committee (STAC)
The Mitchell PTA created the Student & Teacher Advocacy Committee in response to the lack of state funding for our public schools.  Our goal has been to gain a strong understanding of the issues and share that information with you, our Mitchell families. By joining this committee, you make no commitments other than to share information affecting our public school funding and policies and brainstorm ways we can better support our schools.  Join the fight for our children and teachers!

Reading Is Fundamental
This committee position helps to coordinate and oversee book inventory and three school-wide book distributions through the school year. You will also help coordinate contribution of books and oversee a “RIF on the Road” distribution. Flexible year-round placement.

You will come to school once a week at a set time (typically half an hour per week during the students lunch) to spend with your Bobcat. This is a very rewarding program for you and your little Bobcat. Training included. Flexible year-round placement.

Literacy Week
Committee members assist with week-long literacy events at Barnes and Noble by coordinating volunteer schedules, encouraging student participation, advertising, and set-up and distribution of supplies for each activity. Literacy Week is scheduled in December every year, just in time for holiday shopping.

You will also support Bobcat activities such as Halloween costume collections and Holiday collections. This very rewarding committee works throughout the year in support of our Mitchell and Tampa communities in need.  Community Outreach also provides support for our sister school, Dunbar Elementary.
